Slavomir Nastasijevic was born in Gornji Milanovac, a town in central Serbia, in 1904. He came from a family of artists and intellectuals. His father, Nikola Lazarevic, was a builder who moved from Ohrid to Brusnica as a child. His mother, Jelena, was a teacher. His brothers were Zivorad, a painter, Momcilo, a writer, and Svetomir, a composer. Slavomir showed an early interest in literature and history, and he studied classical philology at the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade. He also studied history and archaeology at various universities in Europe.
Nastasijevic started his literary career as a humorist and playwright. He wrote several comedies that were popular among the audiences and critics.
