Engelbert Humperdinck was born Arnold George Dorsey in India in 1936. He moved to England with his family when he was 10 years old. He started singing in clubs and pubs when he was 17, and adopted the stage name Engelbert Humperdinck in 1965. He rose to fame in 1967 with his smash hit "Release Me", which prevented The Beatles' "Penny Lane" from reaching number one in the UK charts. He followed this success with many other hits, such as "The Last Waltz", "A Man Without Love", "Quando Quando Quando" and "Spanish Eyes". He also became a popular TV personality and a sought-after live performer.


Engelbert Humperdinck has sold over 150 million records worldwide and has received many awards and honors, including four Grammy nominations, a Golden Globe for Entertainer of the Year, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II.
