Maulana Jamil has a huge following in Pakistan, particularly among women, as well as in the UK, the US and Europe. He is well respected among Muslims and non-Muslims alike. In his lectures he focuses on the early period of Islam when it was a missionary movement aimed at ridding the world of idolatry. He emphasises the centrality of the Qur'an in Islam. He is renowned for his simplicity and clarity of thought. He leads dawah programmes for mosques and community centres. His message is that Islam is a democratic message where all aspects of life can be integrated into one's life. The Qur'an teaches that women and men are equal, that women are the equals of men in their rights and duties. Islam is not a religion that needs to be separated from any other aspect of life.

Tariq Jamil has been declared a Muslim by Saudi Arabia. He has also been declared an apostate by the mutinous Turkish Islamist Erbakan movement, Binnaziz, in Turkey and he has been declared a Qadiani by the Jamaat-e-Islami.
