The J1939 decoding PCM tool from X431 is pre-set up to decode J1939 frames from the vehicle. The tool decodes the J1939 frames directly from the J1939 PCM database which is saved into your Arduino every time a frame is decoded.
The J1939 Message Decoder tool can be used by the Java application to decode a pre-filled Can Frame and display it in the Serial Monitor. The tool does this using the protocol stack of the J1939 tool. The Java application does not need to have the J1939 tool on the Arduino, rather the tool \"decodes\" all new frames from the target vehicle.
The J1939 Message Decoder tool is broken down into three sections: The J1939 Encoding PCM tool which decodes a frame from the target vehicle The J1939 Decoding J1939 tool for the Java application. This tool is used each time a new frame is decoded and the Java application is fed the frame The Serial Plot tool, which can be used to see live hex values on a graph as the frame goes by
The tool is Define CAN, this was developed by the canards.com team and it supports the raw data and supports Windows, Mac and Linux OS. You can download the free version of this tool and take it for a test drive, it is compatible with the X431 in both wired and wireless running modes.
When Wireshark detects the frame, the information will be displayed for you to view and was captured. You can re-arrange the display, blue pad the range to be displayed and should be very similar to what appears on the Serial Monitor on the Arduino, this can all be changed in the ‘options’ menu on the left of the screen. 7211a4ac4a
